Chapter Eleven
Briana felt nervous and anxious as she sat in the car with John. He said he had someone for them to see and he was being secretive. He had no thoughts going on in his head at all. She felt like something was up, but he wouldnât tell her anything even when she repeated things over and over in her head. He said that once he had more information then they would discuss things.
âI donât know why you just donât tell me now, I mean if we are going to see someone then Iâm about to find out anyways.â She said honestly as he looked at her but before he could answer her, his phone went off again and he just glanced at it and then put it to silent. âYou know you should probably talk to your fiancée, Iâm sure she is pissed.â Briana began as he kept driving. Ana had called at least twenty times in the last thirty minutes.
âDonât worry about that. I have things handled.â He said quickly, and Briana rolled her eyes.
âOk, itâll be your funeral.â She said sarcastically as she shook her head even though part of her was happy that he hadnât answered his phone. That chick was a bitch anyways. Her thoughts left her before she could stop it and he looked at her and raised an eyebrow.â Donât mind me.â She said with a nervous laugh
âShe really isnât a bitch. She is confused, and she can be a bit petty at times, but she is a good person.â He began as Briana rolled her eyes again. âIâm serious, she used to be a cool chick. Laid back and friendly.â He thought of Kate and how they all use to hang out on Friday nights. He got lost in his thoughts and by the time he saw Briana looking at him with wide eyes, it was too late. He had already said too much without saying anything at all.
âShe is your wifeâs sister? I mean ex-wife. I mean.â She shook her head in embarrassment. âNever mind, I shouldnât.â Briana said quickly. Now she felt uncomfortable.
âYes, she is Kateâs sister. The next in line to be married. Lucky me.â He said dryly as he kept driving.
âHow long were you married?â She couldnât help but ask.
âTwenty years.â He began. âIt took me nearly sixty years to grow up enough to get married.â He laughed a little now. âI was a bit reckless in my younger days.â
âWow so you werenât always a grump, good to know.â Briana said with a laugh.
John looked at her now. âYou have no idea, you wouldnât have liked me then. Not a lot of people did but Kate. She was patient.â He said with a smile and Briana actually felt bad for him. When he spoke of Kate it was obvious he loved her so much.
Briana thought of her own life and how even with Chris she didnât have that. Hell, she was sure that he was probably moving on as she sat there.
